budding bloom, 2022

The flower is hair. That is the central idea behind this series.

Created in 2022, this series of three drawings marks a point where I felt I had finally arrived at a clearer understanding of who I am. It is about reaching the stage where all the work you’ve done beneath the surface begins to show.

The central idea behind the work is simple: hair becomes a flower. It is a metaphor for growth, identity, and the crown we build for ourselves over time. Just as a flower slowly blooms, so too do we. There is no shortcut. It takes patience, resilience, and the willingness to keep showing up for yourself.

For me, hair has always represented more than appearance. It speaks of dignity, self-expression, and the quiet act of putting yourself together, even when life feels as though it is working against you. There is strength in that everyday decision.

This series is about laying the foundations of your own crown until, one day, it blooms. It is about becoming the person you were always capable of being.
